Currently, the long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser is regarded as being as effective as sclerotherapy for the treatment of leg veins, and is the treatment of choice in patients who do not respond to sclerotherapy or who are “needle phobic”.

What is spider veins :
Spider veins are often found on the face and legs. The thin veins on the legs termed spider veins usually appear on the thighs and ankles. The veins on the face generally appear on the nose, chin or cheek area and often occur in rosacea. These veins are purple, blue or red and usually appear in three basic shapes: linear, branch-like or spider-shaped, with a dark center point.

Nearly 70% of all women and 30% of men will develop some type of venous disorder. Spider veins result from reticule.

What are additional contributing factors of spider veins formation :
Heredity, Pregnancy, Hormonal changes, Being overweight Standing or sitting for prolonged of time Advancing age Trauma Sun-exposure for veins on the face.

How it works?
The Nd:YAG laser used at Cheadle Laser Clinic, penetrates deeply into tissue and can be used for the coagulation of unwanted veins. It may take several weeks after the laser treatment to notice improvement and often additional vein treatments are required.

How many sessions one needed?
The results may vary from person to person as it depends upon the depth of veins, the area and the underlying sprouting . Usually 6-8 sessions would be enough.

How the laser work on spider veins ?
The specific laser beam targets pigment. The red, purple or blue pigment of the broken or enlarged vein absorbs the heat energy from the laser, leaving the surrounding tissue untouched. This targeted laser energy disrupts the vein or vessel, causing the blood inside to coagulate. Once coagulation has taken place, the vein collapses and is absorbed back into the body. The blood flow will be redirected to a vein deeper in the skin. In some instances, targeted vessels will clear instantly.

Recovery & Aftercare:
Some patients experience redness or mild swelling in the treated area immediately following treatment, which usually dispels within a few hours. Some minor bruising can occur, while should dissipate within a few days. Because the laser targets pigment, avoid any form of tanning – this will make it harder for the laser to distinguish differences in pigment and can result in laser burn. Daily application of a minimum SPF 30 broad-spectrum sunscreen is required to protect the newly treated skin.
